Medication Management for Teens

Is It Time To Consider A Medication Evaluation?

Watching your teen struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, or overwhelming emotions can leave you feeling unsure about what to do next. Many parents wonder whether therapy is enough or if medication should also be considered.

At Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services, we understand those concerns. Medication is never viewed as the only solution. Instead, it is one of many tools that may help reduce symptoms, improve daily functioning, and allow your teen to more fully benefit from therapy, school, family life, and the activities they enjoy.

Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with teens, parents, therapists, and other healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans based on each adolescent's unique needs—not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Whether your teen is just beginning treatment or you're looking for a second opinion, we're here to help you make informed decisions with confidence.

Common Signs Your Teen May Benefit From A Medication Evaluation

✔ Depression is affecting motivation, relationships, or school.

✔ Therapy alone has not provided enough relief.

✔ Mood changes have become more frequent or severe.

✔ Your teen is struggling to attend school or participate in normal activities.

✔ Emotional reactions feel overwhelming or difficult to manage.

✔ Symptoms are affecting your family's daily life.

Our Medication Management Services May Benefit Teens Experiencing:

  • Anxiety Disorders

Our Approach To Medication Management

At Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services,  Medication is one tool that can help reduce symptoms and improve daily functioning, but it is often most effective when combined with therapy, family involvement, healthy lifestyle habits, and the development of practical coping skills.

Our Approach Emphasizes

  • Thoughtful, individualized prescribing based on your teen's unique needs.
  • Shared decision-making with parents and teens actively involved in treatment planning.
  • Holistic Approach to Treatment
  • Regular monitoring to ensure medications remain safe and effective.
  • Collaboration with therapists, primary care providers, and other members of your teen's treatment team.
  • Ongoing education so families understand treatment options and feel confident in each decision.

Our goal is not simply to reduce symptoms—it is to help your teen feel more like themselves, engage more fully in life, and build the foundation for long-term emotional wellness.

Meet Jamie Wiles, RN, MSN, PMHNP-BC

Choosing whether medication is right for your child can feel like a big decision. Jamie believes every family deserves the time, education, and support needed to make that decision with confidence.

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Jamie provides compassionate medication management for children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, OCD, trauma-related concerns, eating disorders, and other mental health challenges. She believes every teen is unique and works closely with both adolescents and their families to develop an individualized treatment plan that reflects their goals, strengths, and needs.

Jamie's approach goes beyond prescribing medication. She partners with families to provide education, discuss treatment options, monitor progress carefully, and integrate medication with therapy, healthy lifestyle habits, and other evidence-based interventions when appropriate. Her goal is to help every teen feel heard, supported, and empowered while receiving thoughtful, person-centered psychiatric care.

What to Expect During Your Medication Evaluation

Your teen's first appointment is much more than simply discussing medication. Jamie takes time to get to know your teen as a whole person—their strengths, challenges, goals, and the experiences that have brought your family to seek care.

During the evaluation, Jamie will review:

  • Your teen's current symptoms and concerns
  • Medical, developmental, and mental health history
  • Previous counseling or psychiatric treatment
  • Current and past medications
  • Family mental health history
  • School performance and social functioning
  • Sleep, appetite, and daily routines
  • Treatment goals and your family's concerns

Following the evaluation, Jamie will discuss her recommendations, answer your questions, and work with you to determine whether medication may be an appropriate part of your teen's treatment plan. If medication is recommended, she will explain the expected benefits, potential side effects, and ongoing monitoring so your family can make an informed decision.

Medication management is a collaborative process. Treatment plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted as your teen grows, symptoms change, or goals evolve.

Medication and Therapy: Better Together

For many adolescents, medication alone is not the complete answer. Research consistently shows that many teens experience the greatest improvement when medication is combined with evidence-based therapy.

At Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services, our providers work collaboratively to coordinate medication management with:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • DBT
  • Teen Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
  • Psychological Evaluations
  • Parent Support

By treating the whole person—not just the symptoms—we help teens build lasting skills while reducing the emotional distress that may be interfering with everyday life.

You Don't Have to Make This Decision Alone

Whether you're just beginning to explore treatment options or looking for answers after months of watching your teen struggle, we're here to help. We'll take the time to understand your concerns, answer your questions, and work with you to determine the treatment plan that best meets your teen's needs.
